Inspiring the Youth to Take Initiative
I’m a DJ and also a local musician although I envision that one day I will go international. Being a celebrity and a common face on TV and a common voice in the airwaves, I know that I’m tasked with the responsibility of guiding the youth who are the future of the nation. I always look for ways to help the youth to get focused in life. I believe in mentoring them and offering guidance to them. This is one way through which I receive gratification in my career.
Last year, I undertook a project whereby I wanted to help the upcoming musicians realize their dreams. I know that there are a lot of talented musicians out there who like me have a problem of getting started in their musical career. I therefore decided to mingle with such youths by interacting with them in their various estates and helping them get connections in the music industry.
The Youth are Need mentoring to Create a Vibrant Nation
I decided to mentor a group of 10 talented musicians and help them record at least their first track. Therefore, using my own resources and a few that I got from friends and sponsors, I organized an audition whereby I could tap on the best talent that I could mentor.
Within 5 weeks of the campaign, I had my first bunch of students. I went ahead to help them write songs and other basics of music. It wasn’t an easy task given that I had limited resources. However, I was determined to see my first of student through.
I hired several music experts while other volunteered themselves and within the next 4 months it was all about training in vocal and choreography of music. We also had various guests, music promoters, DJs, producers etc. visit the students so that they could inspire them and connect with them. This indeed worked well as they both related well. One of the guest producers even identified some =suitable candidates whom she claimed that she would work with.
However, within no time, I had run out of funds. The worst bit, I had put too much attention in mentoring the students that I had almost neglected my career. There was no way that the mentoring was to go on with no funds and seeing no hope coming forth, I decided to halt the classes.
Deep inside, I felt the guilt that I had to leave the students mid-way when they were almost on up on their feet. However, I had slim choices. I too had bills to cater for and having no funds, there wasn’t much that I could have done.
We Need to Join Hands to Help the Youths
On the day that I was to announce the closure of the program, I had requested the students to come with the review of the program. This would be a benchmark which would help me decide whether to launch such a program in the future when conditions were favorable.
They did as I requested them. Only that they didn’t know that I had planned to end the program. When I broke the news and explained the predicament, they felt too sorry for me despite them being disappointed. But as they concurred with me, we all had no better choice.
That day, while back at home documenting their reviews of the program, I received a call. It was from one of the leading retailers in the country. He wanted to meet with me to discuss the specifics of reopening the program because they had considered that I was doing a good job and were ready to sponsor the program.
It had happened that the students who had been booked had called the producer to indicate that the program had stopped prematurely due to lack of funds and in turn the producer decided that it was better that the program continues and thorough her networking she found a sponsor for us. That how I succeeded mentoring the first group of youth, 7 of whom have released hit tracks this year. Hope to continue with the program later this year and in year to come.
