Benefits of Music to Students
In all the events that bring human beings together, there must be a piece of music that is played during the event. This is because music helps us identify with the event as we get entertained as well as help us identify our culture. There are a lot of benefits that humans derive from music apart from entertainment and I want to share with you how music taught me some life lessons and how it can to your children as well.
I started singing in the church at a tender age, maybe I was 10 or 11 by then. I loved singing in the Sunday school, but that was as a group. It was when I was about 10 that I started practicing to sing alone. There are some factors which made me to do this, but mostly I received encouragement from my parent to go it alone. By doing so, I realized the numerous advantages that music helped me in my life and especially my school life. Therefore this article will much focus on school going kids.
Cognitive Development Can be Hastened by Music
When you train to sing, you train to memorize words and have the confidence to sing them fluently later if you get the words right. This means that by memorizing, you are not only boosting your language and presentation skills but reasoning as well.
If you learn how to memorize, you are training your brain to be able to grasp and keep the word in you and hence this can help improve your learning by applying the same in education since your brain can easily grasp and keep things.
Practice in Music Helps one get Organized
In music, especially the choreographed bit, you practice to keep with the rhythm and tempo with other. You learn how to get coordinated with the others. This of course means that you accept to be part of a team. Actually, it is team work because you have to do different stunts together or in a selected group. The more you work as a team, the more you realized your part and this helps you to get organized.
Also the practicing helps students to learn to always present excellent work, if at all you will have to score good grades. In music competitions, the best coordinated team wins; this depicts school life where the student who organizes his/her school work appropriately will be at a position to score good grades.
Music Promotes Togetherness
When kids practice for a music competition in school, they are promoting a conducive environment among each other because they are supposed to carry out various actions together. This may reduce bullying in school and make kids love school because they want to be with the company of their friends. This in turn creates a culture whereby each can live harmoniously despite the varying backgrounds that the various students may be coming from.
Students Become More Confidence
Music practices makes student become more confident and aware of whom they are. Confidence correlate well with discipline and intelligence and thus can help mentor responsible people in the society. Moreover, having confidence means that a student is at a better position to develop creative thinking which can help a student realize his/her talent as one tries to think outside the box or sees things differently.
